Matt Goldman, whose resume includes stints on "Seinfeld" and "Ellen," took more than a year off to write a book. And when he returned, he found it almost impossible to get a job on the few sitcoms left.

Now Goldman is back with a spec script, which has landed at Fox.

The untitled multicamera workplace comedy is produced by Sony TV and studio-based Tannenbaum Co. Inspired in part by Goldman's recent real-life experiences, it centers on a man who tries to make a comeback, both personally and professionally, while working at a dysfunctional company for a woman he dumped five years ago.

"This a show about a guy who is on the road to redemption," said Goldman, who has done some writing work on CBS pair "Gary Unmarried" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" during the past year.

He said he didn't even consider pitching the idea to the networks. Instead, he wrote it on spec.

"It's been so tough lately that I thought I would have a better shot with a script; it's easier to visualize it than a pitch," said Goldman, repped by Vision Art's Scott Schwartz.
