AMC's "Mad Men" lead the way with 19 Emmy nominations 7/14/2011 8:45:25 PM

The nominations for this year's Emmys are out and Sarah Anne Hughes gives a rundown of the nominees: AMC's “Mad Men” is leading the pack with 19 nominations.

And for every unexpected but deserved nomination (Jen Chaney will be a review of these later), there is a criticism just as shocking. Take a look at some of the categories with the most glaring omissions.

Drama Series

While AMC is doing very well with its 1960s drama, the network's two new shows, “The Walking Dead” and “The Killing,” didn't get a nod in this category.  HBO's “Games of Thrones” was nominated for its first season, but David Simon's “Treme” was once again shamefully shut out. It's like “The Wire” all over again.  The category will also upset fans of “Fringe,” the much loved, but little watched Fox show.

Comedy Series  NBC's Thursday lineup was well represented: “The Office,” “Park and Recreation” and “30 Rock” are all nominated. But I'm sure there are “Community” fans out there who believe the show was more deserving of a nod than “The Office” and “30 Rock,” as well as the other three nominees, “Glee,” “Modern Family” and “The Big Bang Theory.”  Actress in a Comedy Series  Three words: No Lea Michele. The “Glee” diva, who was nominated last year, only has one more season to get the award. She better get beltin’.

Supporting Actor in Comedy Series

Four out of the six nominations in their category went to the actors from “Modern Family,” with “Glee's” Chris Colfer and Jon Cryer of “Two and A Half Men” as the others. One of those “Modern Family” nods should have gone to a fella from “Parks and Recreations.” Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman and Chris Pratt would have all been deserving of the award.
